Why the San Rafael Swell

Most riders talk about it.
You'll ride it.

The San Rafael Swell is a massive geological uplift in central Utah — 75 miles long, 40 miles wide, and almost entirely roadless. The Trial is a five-mile stretch of continuous technical rock that has stopped more riders than any other section in the Southwest. Ledges, boulders, off-camber slabs, and drops that demand every skill you have.

We run this route on the Husqvarna FE 501 because nothing else fits. The terrain demands a machine that is light enough to pick up, powerful enough to clear obstacles, and durable enough to take a beating. Show up with your gear. Machine, fuel, camp, meals, and guide are already there.

What's included

Everything you need.
Nothing you don't.

Moto Only

This tour runs exclusively on the Husqvarna FE 501. Advanced off-road skill required. If you've ridden technical rock and can clean a challenging line, you're ready for the Trial.

The Trial — 5 Miles of Hell

Five miles of continuous technical rock through the heart of the Swell. Ledges, boulders, off-camber slabs, and drops. The most demanding section of terrain we run anywhere.

Fully Supported

Chase truck follows the route with fuel, tools, water, and a spare machine. You focus on riding. We handle everything else.

Small Groups

Six riders maximum. The Trial requires individual attention — small groups move at a real pace and the guide can coach every rider through the technical sections.

All-Inclusive

Machine, fuel, meals, camp, guide, and photographer. Show up with your riding gear and nothing else. Everything is staged and ready when you arrive.

Remote Canyon Camps

Two nights in canyon basins deep inside the Swell. No cell service. No crowds. Just rock, stars, and the sound of the wind through the canyon walls.

The route

Day by day.

Day 1

Swell Entry — Wedge Overlook & Little Grand Canyon

Stage at Green River. Gear check, machine walkthrough, and a morning briefing. Ride into the Swell via the Wedge Overlook approach — the Little Grand Canyon drops 1,000 feet below the rim. Technical canyon descents, sandy washes, and a first camp in the basin below the cliffs. The Trial is tomorrow.

Day 2

The Trial — Five Miles of Hell

The day you came for. Five miles of continuous technical rock through the heart of the Swell. Ledges, boulders, off-camber slabs, and drops that will test every skill you have. The guide leads every section. The chase truck is at the exit. Most riders take 4-6 hours. Nobody forgets it. Camp in the canyon below the exit.

Day 3

Crack Canyon & Return

A final morning in the Swell before the ride out. Crack Canyon — a narrow slot canyon passage that opens into a wide desert basin — is the send-off. Technical, scenic, and a fitting end to three days in the most demanding terrain in Utah. Return to Green River, debrief, photos, and a cold drink at the truck.

From the field

“The Trial is everything the reputation says it is. Five miles of rock that will humble you and then make you feel invincible when you're through. The guide got me through sections I had no business cleaning.”

Ryan M.

San Rafael Swell Expedition

“I've ridden Moab, Sedona, and Baja. The San Rafael Swell is a different category. The Trial alone is worth the trip. The camp in the canyon that night was the best I've ever had.”

Derek S.

San Rafael Swell Expedition

“The Wedge Overlook on day one set the tone. Then day two happened. I've never ridden anything like the Trial. I came back a better rider and I'm already planning to do it again.”
